In March 1990, Ana Blandiana re-established the Romanian PEN Club and served as its President from 1990 to 2004, after which she was named Honorary President.

In November 1990, Ana Blandiana was one of the founders of the Civic Alliance, of which she served as President from 1991 to 2001.
Memorialul Victimelor Comunismului si al Rezistentei
Together with Romulus Rusan, in 1993 she initiated and established, under the auspices of the Council of Europe, the first Memorial of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance in the world (Sighet, Romania). In 1994, she founded the Civic Academy Foundation (of which she has been President since its establishment), the non-governmental organization that manages Memorialul Sighet.
